I was born in England but have lived all over the world; 4 years in Germany and 1 year in the Sultanate of Oman (military service); 1 and 1/2 years in Costa Rica; 4 years in the South of France and 30 odd years living in the US (California, Nevada, Hawaii, Florida, Oregon, Washington state Colorado and currently in Las Vegas).  I’ve also spent considerable time in Asia (Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand) and have travelled extensively in Western Europe.  I must have some gypsy blood in me.  My brother is half-convinced I’m in witness protection; the only reason he’s not 100% sure is that I haven’t changed my name or profession.

I’ve been a banker, a soldier (military intelligence – yes, I’m aware that is an oxymoron)

I’ve also been a croupier, a professional poker player, an art dealer, a business owner & manager and a FileMaker developer (since 1987 which, sometimes, makes me feel old).  I love what I do and I consider myself incredibly lucky to be able to make a living doing it.  A great part of the joy and my job satisfaction is seeing businesses being transformed through the proper use of technology.

The above books are all in progress and are scheduled to be released in 2020.

I’ve always been fascinated by interface design and my first book was about my 25 year journey in search of the perfect interface. I’ve also tried to push the envelope as far as it can go and NautilusFM is the culmination (so far) of both of these passions.

All of my life, I’ve heard other people say that “it can’t be done” or “it’ll never work” and all my life I’ve ignored those people completely. Both comments have been made in respect to the concept of developing a single screen solution where the user can neither get lost or confused and, as usual, I haven’t listened to any of them.

IMHO, people who say something can’t be done, generally, don’t want to do it or are afraid of trying. In truth, success teaches us nothing and we only learn from failure. Refining NautilusFM has taught me a lot as I failed to get it to work many times, but never gave up trying, and it is now available and has already been downloaded in 28 countries

FileMaker is an amazing tool that makes it easy to think outside the box and create amazing solutions and I hope you will adopt the NautilusFM framework for your future solutions or converting older ones
